Got the estimate for the clutch replacement just now. Here’s how much it is going to cost:
$7,430 American Dollars! Well, shit.
In fairness to the Maserati this is the first real issue.
By the way here’s the first email from the service folks (confirmed to be a typo following a very mild cardiac issue on my part):
“John, the estimate to replace the clutch is $74330.00, that includes parts, labor and machine work. It looks like all the parts are available. ... Please confirm and I will order the parts.”
Whoa. No thanks, I’ll just buy another one. And have enough left over for a really nice used Miata.
Some exhaust noise for your time. You’ll note the car doesn’t move in this video, which is surprisingly prescient.

I looked at the old thread and the following were closest:
TFritch has driven a Ford lately @ $7400 (WOW)
Biased Plies @ $7000
pip bip - keyboard commando @ $6k-7k
Honorable mention goes to nerd_racing who said 1/3 of a V6 Mustang. A base model V6 ‘Stang starts at $23,800 which gives a price of $7933.

There is a place in town that works on foreign/exotic cars (columbus ga so no real exotic dealerships here) and I talked with the mechanics when they were working on my old MB; they said they always have a couple maseratis in line to fix the clutch. It’s a shame cause they are such gorgeous cars, they should be on the road, not behind an iron fence waiting to be repaired. Nice eye candy when driving by though.
But in all honesty, that sucks man and I'm sorry you're probably not going to be getting any new toys for Christmas if your wife is anything like mine :)

Last time I was there they were doing a full all-panels-off rebuild of a 430. (Side note: already?) I am tiny, tiny potatoes to them.

Depends, are we playing Price is Right rules? Cause he went over. But that is still pretty impressive. And really puts things into perspective...

Wow, doesn’t get much closer than that! I really did guess too, but it was an educated guess because I know what it takes to get the transaxle and torque tube out of an earlier Spyder, so I took a shot in the dark on the parts and that’s what I decided on.

Damn, I guess I nailed it! I have to admit it was an educated guess though, I’ve had the transaxle and torque tube out of a clients ‘04 Spyder so I ballparked that labor and took a guess on the parts.

Totally nailed it. Why can’t we have nice things (in this case, a real 6-speed manual transmission option)?

Beautiful car, by the time I can afford one they’ll be considered classics. Does not stop the wants.

Hah, I thought the same, closest without going over, because by that logic I’d have won.

I’m late to the party but why machine work? Is the flywheel that busted?
